Respighi and Malipiero: their works nowadays are rarely recorded or performed, but they were nevertheless the originators of an important musical revival which took place in Italy in the early twentieth century. Through a commitment to the great masters of the Renaissance and Baroque periods and the study of Gregorian chant, each succeeded in his own way in giving new impetus to the art of music and inspiring future generations.
In a rare portrait of Italian music at the beginning of the twentieth century, Norberto Respighi brings together here some of the most emblematic piano works of these two composers, with Malipiero's Poemetti Lunari and Poemi Asolani, and Respighi's Notturno and Valse caressante.
